Maintaining Your Countertops

TK Quartz & Granite, LLC
Brookings, South Dakota
Congratulations on your new quartz or granite countertops! To ensure you love them and that they stay looking beautiful for as long as possible, below is maintenance for you to follow as well as answers to some common questions.

Quartz:
  • It is REQUIRED to use a hot pad under pans directly out of the oven on a quartz top to avoid scorching.
  • Soap and water are an easy and effective way to clean quartz tops.
  • Rock Docter (pictured below) is another great option for cleaning your quartz countertops. This can be found at your local supply store such as Menards or on Amazon.
  • It is NOT recommended to leave items sitting on the top for an extended period as it is possible for liquids to cause a discoloration spot that can be difficult to remove.
  • Quartz is low maintenance and should not stain unless there is neglect in cleaning up after spills and items, that when wet, might penetrate the surface (e.g. grease, colored paper etc.)
  • For tough to remove spots use Bar Keepers Friend Soft Cleanser (pictured below) and then follow up with Rock Doctor Polish (pictured below).  (Note: Use Soft Cleanser ONLY and NOT the Powder as the powder can damage the top.)
  • It is not necessary to reseal your quartz countertop. If it is starting to look dull, you can clean it with the Rock Docter cleaner (pictured below) and then follow up with the Rock Docter polish (pictured below) and this should bring the shine back.

Granite:
  • It is recommended to reseal your granite countertops once a year. We recommend Rock Doctor granite and stone sealer (pictured below). If it starts absorbing water, it’s a good time to reseal (wait to seal again until it is dried out completely)
  • It is necessary to use a hot pad under pans directly out of the oven to avoid temperature shock which can lead to cracking.

  • It is NOT recommended to leave items sitting on the top for an extended period as it is possible for liquids to soak into the granite and create a stain.
